Texan normally refers to someone who originated from, or who lives in, the state of Texas in the United States of America.

History of the Term
The term is derived for the name of the state, Texas, which is in turn derived from the Spanish name for the once-Spanish province, Tejas. The Spanish took this name from a Caddoan word meaning "friends". Before the Texas War of Independence, Texas residents not of Hispanic descent were sometimes known as Texicans. During this time, and until annexation by the United States, nonhispanic Texas residents were also called Texians Texians is a name for immigrants from the United States and countries other than Mexico who became residents in the Tejas and Coahuila areas of Mexico, much of which later would be called Texas. Following a war for independence, several unofficial terms were used in the 19th century to denote residents of Texas, including Texasian, Texican, and[1].
