Silver poodles, where to find in West Texas?
Q. My gf wants a silver poodle. One of the smaller breeds (I'm not entirely familiar with the sizing, but she does want anything smaller than the regular breed) Anyway, I've been looking in the paper and can't find anyone who sells that particular color "Silver". Is silver a rare color for poodles? Anyone know where in West Texas I could find one?
Asked by I'm Ur Huckleberry - Sat Apr 19 10:08:22 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The closest is Misery Poodles. There is one in Dallas. You'd have to have a breeder let you know when they are available. They are usually expensive w/ papers and actually bred to be show dogs, from what I've read. Wow, your gf has expensive taste in designer dogs.

West Texas Septic Tank Rules and Regulations?
Q. I was told by a contractor hired to install a septic tank system on 11 acres of property in rual West Texas that soil samples taken from the lot require analysis in Austin and this is why after being paid a large sum of money up front, he can't start the job for more than one month. Can this be true? Do all septic installations require some sort of approval from the State Capitol? Seems odd. Thanks for your comments.
Asked by Avery G - Fri Jun 15 00:45:36 2007 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Simply call or go to your County zoning or codes division, they handle all these cases and, take the percolation tests whomever puts in the septic system. It sounds a little like the guy your dealing with might be trying to con you some. Maybe you'd better get three or four quotes before you decide whom to hire.

What is the best way to prepare framed art for long-term storage in West Texas heat (up to 120 F)?
Q. I have framed wall-hangings of various kinds of art work including oil paints, water colors, lithographs, pencil on paper, and photographs. I hope to store them in their existing frames, some of which are not inexpensive. The long-term storage facility is a commercial building without air conditioning in a Texas metropolitan city.
Asked by CARL R - Fri May 28 00:11:59 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You refer to the frames as "not inexpensive." So the art inside them probably IS inexpensive. Also, you're trying to save ten bucks per month by opting for an non-air-conditioned storage facility...obviously your art isn't worth very much. So let it bake.

How heavy is traffic in west Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona?
Q. I want to go on a road trip through Arizona and see all the sites. I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area. I will take I-20 to I-10 to tucson, then take I-10 to I-17 to Flagstaff, then take I-40 through New Mexico to Amarillo Texas, and finally US-287 to the Dallas Fort Worth area. How is traffic on these roads?
Asked by Ryan D - Sat Jul 11 21:09:22 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've driven those roads except for the I-17 part. The traffic is nothing like in the Ft. Worth Dallas area. Main thing to watch out for is in the winter when there will sometimes be freezing rain and the roads will get very slick. Sometimes there are sands storms that reduce visibility but everyone out there claims that they are not as bad as they used to be.

We are planning to build a house in west Texas. Do evaporative coolers really work for air conditioning?
Q. I'd likt to know how the air feels, since I know it works by water evaporation and humidity. Does it feel clammy?
Asked by tsimmerman - Sun Jun 18 15:32:45 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As long as the climate is dry - no humidity or little humidity, an evaporative or as we used to call them, swamp cooler works pretty well. I din't notice any claminess, the climate in Fresno where I used to live, was quite dry - so the little bit of moisture in the air from the cooler was quite refreshing. Swamp cooler can get moldy and you have to change the pads periodically but it is very cost effective!!

I live in West Texas. My back yard is patchy. When would be the best time to plant more grass?
Q. I have St. Augustine in the front, but not in the back. I want to add St. Augustine in the back because I heard it would spread and take over the other grass. Is this true? What steps do I need to take exactly? I don't know where to start...HELP!
Asked by purple_glitter_queen - Tue Apr 1 00:42:08 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, it is true. If you can afford it, let a landscaper firm install the lawn for you. They will prepare the soil and lay down rolls of St. Augustine. Be sure to ask them how to take care of your new lawn. Check with local nurseries, some of them will lay sod, or they will be able to give you names of companies. If you decide to do it yourself, you can buy sod "plugs", or you can put down 1' x 2' sod. My hubby and I put down the 1' x2' sod, watered it each morning. It will look dry and sort of brown at first, but will soon catch on. Wait until the night temperatures are in the 70's as cool and cold weather will not help the grass to establish itself. Water is VERY important to grass, especially when the weather hits the 90's. … [cont.]
