Nounmuseums
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A museum is a building or institution that houses and cares for a collection of artifacts and other objects of scientific, artistic, or historical importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary. Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Early museums began as the private collections of wealthy individuals, families or institutions of art and rare or curious natural objects and artifacts. The museums of ancient times, such as the Musaeum of Alexandria, would be equivalent to a modern graduate institute. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are the general opening times for museums in Montreal? Which days do they close early/stay open longer? Q. I'll be visiting Montreal for the first time next month and I'd like to manage my time as best as I can. Any recommendations for some must see museums would be appreciated also. Thanks very much! Asked by Vorrei - Sat Apr 25 10:15:09 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Here is a Montreal Museums website. Each one has there own site so you can check the times. There are many more museums tho, it really depends what you are interested in. If you are looking for art works, I recommend the Fine Arts Museum, If you are into history, then the McCord and the Redpath are my favorites. But if you are into history you will also want to see the Museum of History & Archeology. (Point a Calliere). For the real history of Montreal, I find the most interesting thing is to take walking tours (with a guide) of Old Montreal, and the Mont Royal Cemetery. Answered by Chris I - Sat May 2 10:47:43 2009 How do two different museums obtain the same piece of art ? Q. This may seem like a dumb question (and I am personally ashamed for having to ask) but I saw the statue of the Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer at the Met in NYC and I know that it is also at other museums as well. Are they just replicas of the original? How do you know if it's the original? Did he do a lot of versions of it? I've always wondered that (about all of the artwork, not just Degas) Asked by Katie - Tue Aug 4 18:56:54 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Like the other person said, they lend their art. But some places do have replicas of the original. Usually the original isn't on display, for many reasons. If it is, it would be heavily guarded, and probably you wouldn't be allowed as close to it as with the replicas of the original. Answered by Raven R - Tue Aug 4 19:06:14 2009 Did you know that the Iraq war destroyed priceless artifacts from Iraqi museums?
Q. Artifacts that dated back to Mesopotamia. In fact the only Ministry of Iraq that did not get looted by rioters was the Oil ministry. Go figure. The looting of Iraqi museums has been equated to a modern day burning of the Library of Alexandria. Asked by Philosopher - Fri Jul 10 11:37:45 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. I heard that those artifacts depicted the existence of extraterrestrials that once roamed the Earth and f***ed up the human race's DNA, and that those artifacts were stolen for that reason.
