Is Texas auto registration just the stickers in the window or also a registration paper?
Q. We've moved from Texas to Oklahoma, and lost the registration to our truck.(2005 ford F150) They won't register it here without the registration, and Texas won't print a duplicate because it's expired, (about 18 months ago). We can't renew it in Texas, because we have to do it in person, and that's not an option. What the HECK are we supposed to do? Is the window registration sticker the same as having the registration on paper? Also, we don't have the title because it's a lien. Texas doesn't release the title until the lien is paid.
Asked by jezuzgirl - Tue Jul 15 16:59:42 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You don't have a whole lot of choices. Option 1. Park it until it's paid for, and you have the title, then get it transferred to Oklahoma and registered. Option 2. Go to the closest court house in Texas and pay for your past due registration, bringing it up to date. No, the sticker is not the same as the paper registration card. Added: Also don't drive it with expired registration, or you are likely to get it impounded, adding to your costs and problems.

How is the Texas Longhorns playing the Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas, Texas considered a nuetral site?
Q. If Texas gets to play in the State of Texas that seems like an unfair advantage.
Asked by maevansjr - Sun Nov 30 09:46:19 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's when they split the tickets between the 2 schools. If half the stadium is filled with Oklahoma fans and half is filled with Texas fans it is equal in terms of fans of both. It's done to give each team equal support and it keeps the team who plays in that state from having a home crowd advantage. The game between Georgia and Florida in Jacksonville, Florida is the same. The stadiums in both situations are considered the best sites for the annual rivalries.

How do i become a Texas resident for college purposes?
Q. I want to go to a college in Texas but don't want to pay the out-of-state tuition fees. How would I become a Texas resident after transferring from a Louisiana college?
Asked by Paul B - Wed Aug 12 19:54:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only way to be certain is to ask the school you're applying to what their rules are. In my experience, you have to live in the state for one year, and you can't be dependent on parents who live out-of-state. If you're under 23 or 24 (I forget which), they'll consider you a dependent. I would call the admissions office and ask for a detailed explanation of the rules and what they require from you in order to get in-state tuition. BTW, also depending on the school, certain scholarships or on-campus jobs may entitle you to in-state or otherwise reduced tuition and fees. Ask if there are any opportunities to reduce the cost of tuition at your school.

Registered for Texas sales tax, do I have to charge for private transactions?
Q. I am registered for sales tax in Texas for a small mail order retail business. Am I obliged to charge and pay sales tax for sales I make which are not part of this business, for example, reselling my own household items on ebay or craigslist? In theory should every private person making these kind of sales be charging and paying sales tax? I know most people do not.
Asked by texas buyer and seller - Sat Jan 19 09:03:51 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you are selling your personal items, Texas proabaly has a casual sale rule regarding sales tax. However, you better keep your business accounts and your personal accounts separate. If you start comingling funds, if/when you get audited, you will have a lot of explaining to do.

What advantages are there living in Texas versus living in Oklahoma?
Q. We're thinking about moving to Texas (close to Decatur). It may be one year or five years, but we're still planning on it. The only thing I know is that Texas has no state income tax. (We live in Oklahoma currently). We're probably going to either move our trailer there or sell this one and buy another. What's the story on cost of living down there? Thanks.

A. Well. as you've probably heard, everything is bigger and better in Texas!!! Just stay out of Houston and Dallas. They are both pretty ugly cities. My suggestion would be to go to the hill country around New Braunfels. It's really pretty up there and the rivers (Guadalupe, Comal) are like right in your back yard.

Q. I lived in Kentucky till Memorial Day so have paid Kentucky taxes. I work in downtown Cincinnati so pay local Cincinnati taxes and am having Ohio taxes withheld. I live in Texas which has no income taxes but fly in to Cincinnati about 6 days a month to help do my job. I work out of my office in Dallas the rest of the month. What is the Texas law on accessing and reading another person's email without their consent?
Q. Can anyone point me to any websites where I can read up on the Texas law regarding accessing and reading another person's personal email without their permission? The email was not associated with work, just a personal hotmail or yahoo account. The person who did this did not have permission to access the account at anytime and was never given the login in or password. They also did not access the account for any monetary reasons. It appears they read the emails just to read the emails. This person also does not live in my house so the account was accessed from a different location, possibly their home. What legal rights do I have regarding this matter?

What are the rules in Texas about how much you can be required to work in a week?
Q. Texas is NOT a right-to-work state. We have no labor laws of our own. We only fall under federal guidelines. However, I cannot find what I am looking for on the web. My employer is changing our schedules and giving us a 4-week rotating schedule where during a particular 15-day stretch in that 4 weeks, we are being required to work 14 of those 15 days with only 1 day off. This is 7 days on, 1 day off, and 7 days on with 2 days off following all this. I just need to know if this is legal. Serious answers only please. I should have said earlier, each of us affected by this are hourly employees and we are paid time and a half for everything we work over 40 in a week. Another clarification: My understanding of a "right to work" state… [cont.]

How do I incorporate myself in Texas without a lawyer?
Q. I recently spent $500 on the services of an attorney to incorporate myself in the state of Texas. In addition to that, I also paid the $300 state filing fee for a total of $800. How could I have done this on my own and saved $500? The only reason why I sought the services of attorney is because I wasn't really sure what to do but it seems to only be routine paperwork that I could've done on my own.

A. As an insurance adjuster I have handled many claims like this (including Texas in the early 90's). I have never worked for an insurance company where we were allowed to deny a claim based on theft without having a valid theft report on file with the Police Dept. If there is no official theft report then I would dispute the denial. A denial of payment to you is legit if there is a police theft report on file. In some cities the theft report is separate from the accident report. Since your property was damaged you should have the right to know if there was a theft report filed. What are the advantages/disadvantages to moving to different parts of Texas?
Q. Choices are 1 West Texas such as El Paso or Midland area 2 Central Southern Texas/Hill Country like Austin or San Antonio or Marble Falls or 3 East Texas like Tyler or Longview area. I've already been to all these places and already know the West is very dry and the East more wet.
Asked by tlw - Sun Sep 27 04:53:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. West Texas is much flatter, drier and does not have as much vegatation. East Texas has the piny woods, is very humid and has a large amount of vegetation. The hill country is pretty much just like it sounds -- hilly and is otherwise sort of the transition area between east and west texas. All 3 have plenty of rural or city areas in which to live: Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, El Paso out West; Tyler/Longview, Nacogdoches/Lufkin, Beaumont/Pt. Arthur or even Houston in the East. The central area down the I-35 corridor is probably the most metropolitan (outside of Houston) with D/FW, Austin & San Antonio.

The central area down the I-35 corridor is probably the most metropolitan (outside of Houston) with D/FW, Austin & San Antonio.

If Texas is sick of the Federal government and wants to secede, should we cut their FEMA and border patrol?
Q. If Texas is so sick of "big liberal government" and wants to secede then why do they accept help from the Federal Government went things hit the fan? Just a year ago when hurricane Ike hit Texas, who did they turn to? The Federal government through FEMA. Furthermore, Texas has the largest Mexican border and the border patrol is a federal agency, but Texas is so sick of the intrusion from the Federal government, so why do they need our border patrol? Shouldn't they just hire statist Texans to do that job? Why do they need intrusive Federal government to do that? If they are so sick of "invasion" by the Federal government, then why do they accept help from the Federal government? Shouldn't they refuse the help, let their borders suffer… [cont.]

A. I agree, if they want to secede, let them, but they will have no right to any of the benefits that go along with being part of America. good riddance.

What is the weather and temperature like all year in Dallas Texas?
Q. We are relocating to Dallas texas, and are wondering what the weather is like all year long. Also, if somebody could help us with any details or inside information we need to know about living in Lewisville Texas we would appreciate it? We heard that you can pick certain energy companies. Is that true? How soon do we need to transfer our Michigan license plates and licenses to Texas licenses?

A. Welcome to Dallas. Hope you like it here. OK.. things you really should know. - Lewisville is OK. Good location, near major highways. It has good and less desirable parts of town. - Lewisville Schools are OK. Not rated as high as nearby Coppell or Flower Mound. - Do not go to Lewisville Hospital. They are completely incompetent. Baylor and Presbyterian Hospitals are the best general hospitals in DFW. - Texas electricity is de-regulated. Think rip-off. I generally stick with the larger companies: Reliant, TXU, Direct Energy and sign a contract for the lowest rate. TXU is raising rates. Reliant just dropped their's. - For nearby entertainment, I would suggest reading www.dallasnews.com and www.guidelive.com. Nearby Grapevine… [cont.]
